‘Wrinklies’ hold beer festival

ABOUT 140 people attended the Wargrave Beer Festival to raise money for a team of charity walkers.

The event at Woodclyffe Hall raised more than £3,000 for the Wargrave Wrinklies, seven women who will be taking on the Grand Union Challenge on June 28.

Jane Swift, Caroline Atkinson, Jan Stanton, Susanna Hanks, Charlotte Taylor, Gill Jennings and Rosie Hancock each needed to raise £250 for their chosen charity, Macmillan Cancer Support, ahead of the 50km walk along the Grand Union Canal.

The festival featured 11 beers, 10 of which were sponsored by village businesses including the Spice Lounge restaurant in High Street and Val Wyatt Marine. The other beer, Rebellion IPA, was donated by the Greyhound pub in High Street.

Mrs Jennings, the organiser, said: “The hall was packed and the noise level rose as the attendees enjoyed the brews. At its height, we believe we had around 140 revellers who contributed huge sums in ticket and beer sales.
