Villagers celebrate 21st year of community centre

THE people of Woodcote have celebrated the 21st birthday of the village’s community centre.

Dozens of trustees, supporters and local dignitaries attended a party at the former schoolhouse in Reading Road on Friday.

Among them were Henley MP John Howell, South Oxfordshire District Council leader Ann Ducker, Councillor Kevin Bulmer, who represents Goring on Oxfordshire County Council, Woodcote Parish Council chairman Robin Peirce and the centre’s chairwoman of trustees Jenny Horsup.

They enjoyed drinks and canapés before Mrs Horsup cut a cake that had been baked for the occasion.

The centre, which is owned by the county council, was due to be demolished in 1991 when a group of residents developed a plan to save it.
