Steam train returning

A STEAM train is to stop at Goring station for the first time in two years.

The Cathedrals Express service will depart from the village on September 25 and travel to Dartmouth via Exeter and Paignton.

It last visited Goring in 2012, when it became the first steam locomotive to stop at the station in 50 years.

Dozens of people lined the platform for the occasion, which marked the finale of the village’s diamond jubilee celebrations. It was hoped that a regular service would return but steam trains were temporarily banned on the line while Reading station was refurbished.

Prices for the journey, run by operator Steam Dreams, start at £99 but discounts are available for Goring residents.
