Boat crashes into regatta boom

A BOAT damaged part of the barrier that marks out the Henley Royal Regatta course after crashing into it.

The vessel, named Lagniappe, was heading downstream towards Temple Island when it veered towards the Berkshire bank.

It ploughed through the wooden boom, which became entangled in the boat’s propeller, and snapped off one of the upright white posts.

The boat then stopped on the bank a few metres downstream from where the regatta enclosure is currently being built.

Ollie Denton, who teaches paddle-boarding on the Thames in Henley, was following the boat with two students when the incident occurred at about noon on Monday.
