Award for farm manager after 44 years of service

A FARM manager from Kidmore End has received an award for long service from the Royal Agricultural Society of England.

Roddy Young, 58, has worked at Vines Farm, which was formerly the Cane End Estate, for 44 years.

He was presented with the bronze award and a certificate at a party for family, friends and colleagues at the New Inn in Kidmore End.

Mr Young, who was born in Henley and brought up in Gallowstree Common, fell in love with farming as a boy and started working at the Cane End Estate at weekends and during school holidays from the age of 13.

He said: “I was fascinated by what was going on with tractors and combine harvesters. One day, one of the chaps asked me if I wanted a ride on the tractor and I’ve never looked back.”
