FORMER Henley resident Brian Flattery died on May 20 at his home in Des Moines, Iowa, after a short illness. He was 70.
He moved to Henley with his wife-to-be, Marian, in 1999 and they were married in the town’s register office in December that year.
They set up home in a boathouse in Wharfe Lane overlooking the finishing line of the royal regatta.
Brian soon became involved in the social life of Henley, joining Leander Club, Phyllis Court Club and the Henley Friday Club, a group of men who regularly enjoy a fine lunch and each other’s company.
He was also a member of the Knights of the Round Table, the Company of Watermen and Lightermen of the River Thames and the Island Sailing Club in Cowes. He was given the Freedom of the City of London in 2008.
