My lucky escape in lightning strike

A WOMAN has spoken of her lucky escape after a tree crashed down inches from her house during a thunderstorm.

Amanda Christie, of Deanfield Avenue, Henley, couldn’t leave her home for several hours after the tree was struck by lightning in the early hours of June 14.

Her car was blocked in by the fallen tree and it needed her friend Jonty French to use his chainsaw to clear it.

Miss Christie, 43, said: “During the storm lightning hit the trunk and it came down right outside my house.I didn’t notice it until the Saturday morning when I couldn’t get my car out so I was trapped.

“The first thing I did was ring the fire brigade because I thought they would be able to remove it. They told me because it wasn’t a highway they couldn’t do anything but the council would.
