Fun and games at Forties-themed party

RESIDENTS of a care home were treated to music, games and food at a tea party on Friday.

Watlington and District Nursing Home in Hill Road held the Forties-themed event to celebrate National Care Home Open Day.

The residents’ families and friends as well as members of the community were invited.

Activities included a coconut shy, table tennis and the “generation game” and there were snacks and cakes available throughout the day. Singer Xanna Williams, from Chalgrove, perfomed a medley of Forties songs including Vera Lynn’s We’ll Meet Again before finishing her set with Land of Hope and Glory.

Gwyneth Lonsdale, a temporary resident who had spent a week at the home, said: “It has been a lovely day.” Zena Burchill, who celebrated her 91st birthday on the day, said: “I live here permanently and used to work here as a cook when it was a hospital, so it has been my life. I’ve had a really good time enjoying the party and opening my birthday presents.”
