Police help round up 20 alpacas after farm escape

POLICE were called in to help round up 20 alpacas after they escaped from a farm.

The animals slipped out of an open gate at Bozedown Alpacas, off the B471 in Whitchurch, shortly before 11am on Monday.

Residents spotted the herd roaming north along the carriageway towards Crays Pond and raised the alarm.

Mary-Jo Smith, who has owned the 180-acre business for 14 years, and her four staff drove after the animals and caught up with them at Whitchurch Hill village green, about half a mile further north.

The creatures had split into two groups and were roaming over the green but the team was able to round them up.
