Fun at inaugural village garden party

VILLAGERS flocked to a garden party in Swyncombe.

The event was held in the Old Rectory thanks to tenants Amy and Andrew Lindsay.

Attractions included games such as splat the rat and sponge throwing, a children’s fancy dress competition and a guess the weight of the lamb competition.

There were free strawberries and tea for the visitors, who were all invited from within the Swyncombe parish.

John Sennett, who helped organise the party on behalf of St Botolph’s Church in the village, said: “This was the first time we had done something like this.

“The idea was to have a coming together of people who live in all the villages and hamlets around here.

“We had a fantastic turnout — it seemed like the entire parish came.”

Andrew Lindsay, who is a tenant at the Old Rectory with his wife Amy, said: “I go to the church so I offered to hold the garden party here but the church did everything else — they are the unsung heroes.”
