Residents celebrate staff deal to keep library open

A CELEBRATION was held to mark a partnership agreement that will keep Benson library open.

The Castle Square library was one of several due to lose half their staff funding in cuts made by Oxfordshire County Council.

The Friends of Benson Library signed a formal agreement with the council to keep the service going at the end of last year.

In April, the amenity became a “community library”, meaning that the council will continue to provide the building and facilities as well as 20 hours of staff time per week and the Friends will fund another five hours to ensure that library manager Hilary Rust is always present.

The Friends will also provide volunteers to support the professional staff and maintain the existing opening hours.
