THE former Bishop of Reading, the Rt Rev John Bone, has died, aged 83.
He served as bishop between 1989 and 1996 before retiring in Henley.
He was born on August 28, 1930, the son of Jack and Herberta Bone. He was awarded an exhibition to Monkton Combe School in Bath partly due to his musical ability.
At school, John continued to develop his musical interest by learning the organ and singing. He played most sports but notably hockey, which ultimately led to him meeting his wife Ruth.
Although he had specialised in science and was planning to train as a doctor, in his last year at school he began to experience a call to ordination.
