Headteacher’s ‘amazing’ trip to Downing Street

THE headteacher of a Benson school had the “opportunity of a lifetime” when she visited number 10 Downing Street.

Steph Fawdry, headteacher at RAF Benson Community Primary School, made the journey to the heart of Government on Thursday last week.

She was invited after the school’s successful bid of almost £50,000 which has been used for new play equipment in a project costing a total of £65,000. The remaining cash came from the school’s capital budget.

The funding comes from the Ministry of Defence via the Armed Forces Community Covenant, which encourages close working between local communities and the armed forces in their area.

Mrs Fawdry said there were between 100 and 150 people at the reception, held in a garden at the rear of number 10, which included military personnel, charities, Ministry of Defence personnel and ministers.
