MAURICE was born within the sound of Bow Bells in Charing Cross Hospital, Westminster.
His parents lived in Marylebone but soon moved to Kenton.
His father was in the military, fighting in the First World War and being assigned to the Middle East in the Second World War.
In Kenton, Maurice went to Priestmead Infants and Junior School and became a sixer in the local cub pack. They went out in carts collecting waste paper and aluminium for the war effort.
In October 1940, a bomb hit the semi-detached house next to the Days’ home at 5am, killing that family.
