Fete boosts village pre-school

SCORES of people attended Whitchurch village fete on Saturday.

Attractions included a tug-of-war contest, dog show, children’s rides, barbecue, bar and raffle as well as children’s entertainer Dizzy Dean and music from the Beenham Wind Orchestra.

There was a range of stalls, including one for Whitchurch and Goring Heath Twinning Association which was selling cakes, samosas, jams and marmalades.

The fete, held on the village green, raised several thousand pounds for Whitchurch Pre-School.Delighted organiser Fiona Acworth said: “The pre-school is a parent-run charity so it relies heavily on fund-raising. This a great team effort from everyone involved.”

She thanked Castrol in Whitchurch Hill for providing the raffle prizes. The event was sponsored by Warmingham estate agents and Richard Wilson Long solicitors, of Goring, and the Valley Veterinary Group in Pangbourne.
