ONE man almost cleaned up the prizes in the vegetable classes at the Caversham Horticultural Society’s autumn show.
Jim McCartney, who is a regular exhibitor at the show, impressed the judges with his potatoes, shallots, beans, marrows, tomatoes and other produce as he won 14 prizes in the vegetable section and another four in the flower section.
Mr McCartney, from Tilehurst, took seven cups including the society’s silver bowl for most points in show, the Jubilee Shield, Bert Goodson Trophy, Ford Silver Challenge Cup, Society Silver Challenge Cup, Voyle Cup and National Dahlia Society Medal.
Malcolm South claimed the Royal Horticultural Society’s Banksian Medal for the exhibitor gaining the most prize money, which Mr McCartney was excluded from as he won it last year.
Mr South, of Hemdean Road, Caversham, won three prizes in the vegetable section and one each in the fruit and flowers sections.
