Former soldier wins double at Invictus Games

A FORMER soldier from Nettlebed who lost his arm in Afghanistan five years ago won two gold medals at the Invictus Games.

Jaco van Gass, 28, who was injured after a grenade attack during his second tour of the country in 2009, won the men’s cycling time trial and the circuit IRB2.

The Games are an international sporting event for wounded, injured and sick service personnel that were launched by Prince Harry.

More than 400 competitors from 13 nations took part in nine sports at the Olympic Park in London over four days last week.
Mr Van Gass, a former Para, said: “It was fantastic. The crowds that turned up were incredible and there was an amazing atmosphere.
