Residents clear out brook

ABOUT 30 volunteers helped clear a section of a Benson brook that is prone to flooding.

Residents took part in the clean-up of the Ewelme Brook on Saturday with the help of five staff from the Environment Agency and a drainage engineer from Oxfordshire County Council. A skip was provided by Grundon.

The agency staff gave a health and safety talk at the start and then led the operation. They concentrated on an area from Mill Lane to near the Larkmead Veterinary Group premises.

The operation followed a public meeting last month between residents and representatives of both authorities and South Oxfordshire District Council.

Mark Gray, Benson’s representative on the county council, said it was hoped the clean-up would become an annual event.
