Appeal to help keep library running

THE Friends of Benson Library will hold their first Appeal Day tomorrow (Saturday).

The event, which it’s hoped will become annual, is designed to raise funds to pay for library staff following budget cuts by Oxfordshire County Council.

Dave Rushton, chairman of the friends’ trust, said: “The Friends of Benson Library have to raise £5,000 a year as a registered charity, nearly all of which goes to purchasing some staff hours in the library.

“These extra hours, plus the efforts of 40 volunteers, have enabled the library to continue to offer the same service as before the county staff were cut.”

He said the group would also be asking members for donations and writing to local parish councils.
