Members of the Henley YMCA football team held a reunion last Thursday (11), 50 years after they first formed.
More than 20 players from the team, many of whom still live in Henley, attended the reunion at the Catherine Wheel in Hart Street.
The team were unbeaten in the Reading Combination Division 3 in their first season, and went on to win Divisions 2 and 1 before clinching three straight Premier Division titles in a row.
The players spent the evening reminiscing about their triumphs, including memorable matches, goalscorers and horror injuries, such as when centre-back Dave Arlett’s leg was broken in a challenge by teammate and brother Ken.
Mr (Ken) Arlett, who organised the reunion, said: “It was an absolutely marvellous evening. We like to keep in contact but this is the first time we have all been together for 45 years. All the talk was about when we should do it again.
