Solar farm under fire

A PROPOSED solar farm in Charvil could have a detrimental impact on views, wildlife habitats and flooding, say planners.

Suncredit UK applied to Wokingham Borough Council for an environmental impact assessment of the 12megawatt farm at South Park Farm, off Loddon Drive.

The land, which is close to the River Loddon, is currently used as a sheep pasture.

The proposal has  prompted complaints from neighbours, who say it could result in flooding on the land.

Now the council’s planning officers say the development could also affect views, nearby homes in Loddon Drive and the habitats of wildlife including birds, fish and badgers.

They also said that as well as assessing flooding and debris on the land, the applicants should carry out an archeological investigation.

These issues will need to be addressed in an environmental statement to go with any full planning application.
