Residents say where to build

RESIDENTS in Watlington would prefer to see sites to the west of town developed for housing.

RESIDENTS in Watlington would prefer to see sites to the west of town developed for housing.

This was revealed in a report on feedback forms filled in at seven roadshows promoting the town’s neighbourhood plan held last month.

Two sites to the west were backed by more than half of respondents, while another two to the north-west gained almost 50 per cent approval.

The roadshows attracted more 300 visitors and 250 feedback forms were returned.

The results also showed that the majority of respondents wanted new homes built on the string of sites between Pyrton Lane and Britwell Road, so that a new route could be provided to help drivers avoid the town centre.

This was instead of spreading 200 new homes on sites around the town with no new route for traffic but having effective traffic management.

All the available plots will be assessed against agreed selection criteria before the final choices are made.

A draft of the plan is due to be released next month with a referendum set for spring.
