PLANS for two homes on a fomer Second World War camp in Sonning Common have been refused.

Bennett Commercial, of Waltham St Lawrence, wanted to develop the 0.69 hectares of land near Bishopswood Recreation Ground, off Gallowstree Road.

The parish councils in Sonning Common, Peppard and Kidmore End all opposed the plans and South Oxfordshire District Council agreed..

Planning officer Tom Wyatt said: “The site lies outside the built-up limits of Sonning Common, is not identified for development in the development plan and the proposed development would not represent infill development as defined by the core strategy.”

He said the development would be “socially unsustainable” due to the “poor links” with the village so the residents would have to rely on cars.
