Perfect weather for Mayor's barn dance

THE Mayor of Henley hosted a barn dance to raise money for his official charities

THE Mayor of Henley hosted a barn dance to raise money for his official charities.

Julian Brookes welcomed guests to the event at the end of the Thames Traditional Boat Festival in Fawley Meadows.

There was a meal before the dancing began with the music performed by the Tanglefoot Band.

Councillor Brookes, who wore a cowboy outfit for the occasion, said: “The music and band were appropriate for the event.

“The setting was, of course, perfect and so was the weather. The dance floor was still full at 11pm. A lot of people really enjoyed themselves. Many came up to me and asked when we were holding the next one.”

The event was in aid of Henley youth and community project Nomad, the Riverside Counselling Trust and Henley YMCA. A raffle with prizes donated by Asquiths Teddy Bear Shop, the Regal Picturehouse, the Red Lion Hotel and Henley Literary Festival raised £660.

The barn dance idea was suggested by Paula Price-Davies, events co-ordinator at Henley Town Council.
