A BENCH has been installed on Woodcote village green in memory of a former district councillor and community stalwart.

Christopher Quinton, a 66-year-old businessman, who died last year, moved to the village from South Africa in 1986 and sat on the council from 2003 to 2007 and from 2011 until his death.

He was also editor of the parish’s newsletter the  Woodcote Correspondent, chairman of the village hall management committee and president of Woodcote Cricket Club.

The bench was donated by Mr Quinton’s widow Carol. The couple’s sons, William and Thomas, attended the unveiling together with their children and Mr Quinton’s siblings, Tom, Peter and  Caroline.

Father Anthony Conlon, the parish priest, delivered a prayer of dedication.
