Swimming pool closed for maintenance

THE swimming pool at Henley leisure centre will be closed during the day on weekdays over the next fortnight for maintenance work to be carried out.

THE swimming pool at Henley leisure centre will be closed during the day on weekdays over the next fortnight for maintenance work to be carried out.

It will be out of action from 8.30am to 4pm from Monday to Friday next week.

Swimming lessons will take place in the evenings as normal.

From Monday to Friday August 22 to 26 the pool will be closed completely and there will be no swimming lessons.

Members will receive discounted rates on lessons in September as compensation.

The gym, studios and squash courts at the leisure centre in Gillotts Lane will remain open as usual.

The work is to replace the pool’s air handling unit. This will improve the environment, reduce maintenance, improve reliability and reduce energy use.

Kevin Williams, general manager of the leisure centre, said: “We apologise to customers for any inconvenience they may experience.

“However, the environmental benefits of the new system will be significant.” The lesiure centre is operated by the Better group on behalf of South Oxfordshire District Council.

Jane Murphy, deputy leader of the council, said: “The work we’re carrying out will mean we save significant amounts of energy and help to ensure we keep maintenance costs down too. We’ve managed to keep the pool closure time relatively short.”

The nearest alternative pools are Riverside Park and Pools at Crowmarsh Gifford, Wallingford and the Rivermead leisure complex in in Richfield Avenue, Reading.
