Moorings warning

A WARNING has been issued about boats being moored permanently at Rod Eyot in Henley.

A WARNING has been issued about boats being moored permanently at Rod Eyot in Henley.

Deputy Mayor Will Hamilton was speaking at a meeting of the town council’s planning committee as it considered an application to use a mooring independently of the boathouse.

Raj and Anuradha Aurora, of Rod Eyot, have rented out the mooring to Dave and Rose Emeney for their boat Mr E since 2005.

In a letter to the committee, Mrs Emeney said: “We use the boat for cruising on the river and initially used the boat most weekends,

“However, over the years we have used it less and less, so the boat has ended up being moored permanently.”

South Oxfordshire District Council will decide if the mooring and boathouse can be used independently without planning permission.

But Cllr Hamilton said: “We’ve got to be careful about this and we should not allow it.

“After four years it becomes lawful development but we need to go to the sites and work out which ones are lawful and which ones are not. We could end up with five of these coming through.”
