Villagers still awaiting faster web connection

ACTION is needed to improve broadband speeds in Bix and parts of Middle Assendon, says the parish clerk.

ACTION is needed to improve broadband speeds in Bix and parts of Middle Assendon, says the parish clerk.

Since the installation of a new fibre cabinet outside the Smith Centre in Fair Mile, much of Lower Assendon and parts of Middle Assendon have been enjoying significantly faster download and upload speeds.

But Jane Pryce, clerk of Bix and Assendon parish, said some parts of Middle Assendon and all of Bix had seen “no material enhancement” in the speed of their internet connection.

The parish council and a number of residents have been liaising with Broadband Delivery UK and have been told that a new fibre cabinet is due to be installed in Bix.

Mrs Pryce said: “While it seems they are still at the planning stage and, as of yet, unable to confirm actual delivery details, we are told that the deployment of this new fibre cabinet has been approved.

“Openreach, which is part of BT and responsible for the installation, is currently undertaking the necessary planning work to confirm the logistics involved.

“It is our intention to wait for the deployment of the planned new superfast broadband cabinet in Bix and then assess our additional needs as a parish after that.”
