Shaft from mansion to river

A DEVELOPER wants to build a lift shaft to connect a house to the riverside.

A DEVELOPER wants to build a lift shaft to connect a house to the riverside.

Spink Property is seeking planning permission for the tunnel underneath Wargrave Road on the old Park Place estate.

Developer Michael Spink bought the estate in 2007 and then sold the main house and 200 acres of land for a British record £140 million four years later.

He kept another 300 acres, renamed Conway Park Estate, where he plans to build a number of new properties, including a replacement to the “lost mansion” called Strowdes.

The tunnel would connect Strowdes and the riverside, where the developer hopes to build a new summerhouse, by the use of a lift.

The old estate had several tunnels, some of which were built in the 18th century.

Wargrave Parish Council has recommended that the plans are approved by Wokingham Borough Council.
