Recreation ground deal nears

A DEAL to transfer the ownership of land for a recreation ground from a developer to Sonning

A DEAL to transfer the ownership of land for a recreation ground from a developer to Sonning Common Parish Council is close.

A field at Bishopswood Farm is set to be gifted to the village for recreation as part of plans for 50 homes by Linden Homes and Patricia Pelly on a neighbouring field.

The land would be owned by a community trust overseen by the parish council.

Deputy parish clerk Ros Varnes said the developer was discussing amended plans with South Oxfordshire District Council, the planning authority.

A parish council working party would meet with contractors LK2 next month.

Mrs Varnes said: “There will be a full discussion about what we want to see on there and they will give us feedback on feasibility.

“We are already looking at fencing for the site and at something similar to the skate park.”

Councillor Leigh Rawlins said it could take up to 20 years to get all the facilities the working party wanted in place, adding: “What is important is there are milestones to tick at each stage.”

The council will seek grants for the project to add to the £300,000 it has earmarked from the £500,000 it received from the sale of its land at Brinds Copse for housing.
