Councillor attacks Phyllis Court health club design
PLANS for a new health club at Phyllis Court Club in Henley look like a “warehouse”, according to a town councillor.
The private members’ club has applied to South Oxfordshire District Council for permission to create a two-storey building, including a swimming pool, in the visitors’ car park and on part of the tennis courts.
New courts would be built next to the facility, the car park would be extended and there would be a new walkway from the clubhouse to the health club.
Speaking to the Henley Town Council planning committee, Councillor Lorraine Hillier said the artist’s impression of the building “looks like an industrial warehouse”.
Some of the building would be located in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty but committee chairman Dieter Hinke asked if it would have much impact.
