Bank staying despite pub-restaurant plan

BARCLAYS Bank will be staying in Henley for the forseeable future — despite its landlord seeking to convert the premises into a bar and restaurant.

Frederick West has submitted a planning application for a change of use for the Hart Street building in case Barclays decides to close the branch.

But the bank has a lease on the premises until 2020 and says it has no plans to leave. The three-storey building was also refurbished recently.

Mr West said: “We are making an application to secure the future use should Barclays decide to have operational changes and wish to vacate.

“We do not envisage the bank making any changes to the current lease terms. We look forward to discussing future extensions of the existing lease subject to contract at such a time the bank wishes to open discussions.”
