RESIDENTS and councillors in Peppard are fighting a threat to move more than 160 homes into Sonning Common.
More than 30 members of the public packed a meeting of the parish council this week and many spoke against South Oxfordshire District Council’s suggestions for changes to the parish boundaries.
The council itself has written to the district council giving 12 reasons against the draft proposals, which would mean the loss of a quarter of Peppard’s houses, and it has withdrawn a request to enlarge its own parish.
The areas that would move into Sonning Common include all of Shiplake Bottom, Gravel Hill Crescent and Priory Copse and parts of Gallowstree Road, Stoke Row Road, Gravel Hill and Blounts Court Road as well as the offices and laboratories of Johnson Matthey.
Peppard Stores, Springwater Peppard Congregational Church, the Pet Barn and the garage would also become part of Sonning Common.
