Council has appetite for new food festival

A FOOD festival could return to Henley. The Market Square Group wants to stage a three-day event in Market Place and the town hall from August 8 to 10.

The company has held Continental markets in Henley since 2010 and will also be holding food festivals in Ipswich, Norwich, Saffron Walden and Reading this year.

Town councillors have welcomed the idea, saying they hope the event would feature local foods and producers.

The last Henley Food Festival took place in 2009, having run for three years before being scrapped due to costs.

The town council’s town and community committee heard this week that the festival would focus on British food and drink but also promote national dishes from around the world.
