Councillors worried about Mill Meadows overuse

CONCERNS have been raised about the potential overuse of Mill Meadows in Henley for events.

It follows a request by the organisers of a charity race in September to use the riverside beauty spot as the finish line for up to 1,000 competitors.

The grassland, which is heavily used by visitors and residents during summer, is already earmarked for use for the second Music on the Meadows event on July 20 as well as a series of open-air film screenings organised by the Regal Picturehouse cinema in the summer .

It could also be used by the Henley Literary Festival in early October for a marquee with seating for up to 600 guests.

The town council, which owns the meadows, has been asked by Action Challenge, the organisers of the annual Thames Path Challenge, for permission to erect two marquees totalling 387 sq m to receive the runners on September 14 and 15.
