Villagers win homes fight

RESIDENTS have welcomed a decision to refuse permission for nine houses in place of two bungalows in Benson.

Brim Developments wanted to build on a landlocked site to the rear of Blacklands Road and Brook Street but was turned down by South Oxfordshire District Council.

The company appealed but now a government planning inspector has upheld the council’s decision.

Cyril Passey, 92, who lives in Brook Street, said: “I’m glad it has been refused because I have lived next door to it for the last 60 years and I have seen all the trees and bushes grow up and wildlife come in there. The village has got to grow but it would be better down the lower half of the village rather than up here.”

The site once formed part of the garden of a property in Brook Street as well as nos 22 and 24 Blacklands Road. It belongs to Ross Williams, whose family have lived in Benson for generations.
