THE organiser of this year’s Henley in Bloom campaign says “we’re going for gold”.
Kellie Hinton is looking to better last year’s silver gilt achieved in the town category of the national final of the Royal Horticultural Society awards. The town fell just two points short of gold and was ranked fourth out of nine finalists, scoring 168 points out of a possible 200.
Councillor Hinton, who chairs the Henley in Bloom committee, administrator Becky Walker and parks managers Gareth Bartle attended a seminar for the finalists where they met this year’s judges and attended advice sessions on topics such as social media and pollinators.
Cllr Hinton said: “We were thrilled to be used as an example by Ed Horne in his expert session on media as a bloom group which has a great relationship with its local paper. Both Henley in Bloom and the Henley Standard were named with a slide showing one of the Standard’s Buy a Basket campaign articles from last summer.”
The trio also learnt about this year’s competition and how it will be judged.
