THE top common in Peppard should be kept as it is rather than turned into a play area, according to a resident.

William Penno, of Stoke Row Road, spoke after the parish council was given permission by landowner Fleming Estate to use the common. He said: “It should be left alone for nature. That’s the best thing we can do for those who will come after us.” Mr Penno said he took the same view when the council turned the green space off Stoke Row Road into a cricket pitch and built a pavilion. The council is to investigate whether it needs planning permission for the play area and Councillor Terry Ryan, who is leading the project, is to put together an action plan on how to proceed. Councillors have promised residents that they will be consulted before the project is finally agreed.
