PARKING wardens could be introduced in Henley and South Oxfordshire to tackle illegal parking.
Enforcement is currently the responsibility of the police but Henley Town Council believes decriminalising it would free up officers’ time.
Councillors have met with their counterparts in Thame, Didcot and Wallingford who indicated their support for introducing wardens.
South Oxfordshire District Council is now developing a strategy for civil parking enforcement and a paper will be submitted to its cabinet in April or May.
A report to the town council’s town and community committee said that the set-up cost would be £175,000 but the scheme would “just about break even”.
