Hockey club unsure over refurbishment

HENLEY Hockey Club is one step closer to refurbishing its clubhouse.

Henley Town Council, which owns the site at Jubilee Park off Reading Road, is set to give permission for the work.

The club wants to lay a new wooden floor inside the building, replace the kitchen, skim the ceiling and install new lights. The work would be done in three stages.

Club president Chris Baker told a meeting of council’s recreation and amenities committee on Tuesday that the work was urgently needed.

However, he said he was unsure whether to proceed as the council is considering selling the site for housing as part of the Henley and Harpsden joint neighbourhood plan. If this happens, the council has promised to provide a new headquarters for the club.
