THE new councillor for Watlington on Oxfordshire County Council has pledged to look at the issue of heavy goods vehicles going through the town.
Stephen Harrod was speaking after holding the Watlington and Chalgrove seat for the Conservatives in a by-election on Thursday last week.
Mr Harrod was elected with 871 votes, followed by Liberal Democrat candidate Susan Cooper with 629 votes, UKIP’s Gavin Laird Craig (311), Paul Collins of Labour (159) and the Green Party’s Colin Tudge (116).
Mr Harrod, 60, said: “I’m thrilled to have been elected and hope I can prove my supporters right in having put me in this position.”
He said key issues he would tackle were HGVs and traffic generally in small villages and the resulting air pollution, particularly in areas like Watlington.
