AN actor recovering after a cancer scare is set to be the next mayor of Henley.
Martin Akehurst, 65, who only returned to civic duties in February, was made mayor-elect at a meeting of the town council on Tuesday evening.
There were no other nominations and Cllr Akehurst, who is currently deputy mayor, was elected unanimously.
Jeni Wood defeated Lorraine Hillier in the vote for deputy mayor-elect.
Cllr Akehurst, who represents the ruling Henley Residents’ Group, said he was “absolutely delighted”.
