Our litter makes me feel ashamed, says trader

A COUNCILLOR says she is ashamed by the amount of litter in Henley town centre.

Councillor Joan Bland spoke out just days after the annual Hit Litter event in which volunteers cleaned the streets of rubbish and filled several bags.

Cllr Joan Bland, who runs Asquiths teddy bear shop in New Street, told a meeting of the council’s town and community committee: “This morning the streets were very clean but walking through the Falaise oblong this evening, it was awful — I feel ashamed to be a person of Henley.

“The litter is horrible. How can people sit out there and have drinks? It’s disgusting. During the day it is clean but then it gets filthier and filthier. We have got a scruffy bunch in Henley.”

She said dog owners should clear up after their pets and should not allow them to urinate on the plant pots outside her home in New Street.
