Congested town

HENLEY could be earning a reputation for congestion, according to the Mayor-elect.

Martin Akehurst said the traffic lights at the junction of Reading Road and Station Road were leading to unnecessarily long delays.

Speaking at a meeting of the town council’s traffic advisory committee, he said: “There is an inordinate amount of time where all directions are held stationary.

“I am concerned that outside Henley we are getting a reputation for appalling congestion.”

Councillor Pam Phillips, who doesn’t drive, said the junction was often busy with pedestrians crossing.
