Council accepts singer’s sculpture

A SCULPTURE offered as a gift to Henley by Vince Hill has been accepted by the town council.

The singer and his wife Annie wanted to donate their bronze statue of leaping deer as a thank-you to the town for its support over the years and in memory of their son, Athol, 42, who died unexpectedly in January.

Wild Deer Leaping, by sculptor Claire Norrington, was made to commemorate the couple’s golden wedding anniversary in 2009.

The statue, which measures 6ft 6in by 11ft 6in, was formally accepted by members of the town council at a meeting on Tuesday.

Councillor Jeni Wood said the sculpture was beautiful, adding: “The more I look at it the more my heart leaps.”
