New rules for use of public land

HENLEY Town Council wants to introduce guidelines to prevent misuse of its land.

It follows complaints that fitness instructors and personal trainers have attached exercise equipment to the underside of the bandstand roof in Mill Meadows.

Others are believed to have held paid-for fitness classes in Mill Meadows as well as Marsh Meadows, Makins Recreation Ground and Freemans Meadow.

The council has decided not to introduce a licensing system because it would be too difficult to enforce.

However, its recreation and amenities committee has agreed new guidelines for use of the public land.
