Brighter Christmas

CHRISTMAS lights in Henley will be improved this year in a bid to boost the town as a winter destination.

Electric cabling and sockets will be installed in Hart Street, Market Place, Duke Street and Bell Street so that more Christmas trees can be put up.

Henley Town Council has approved the work, which will be carried out by Merlin Lighting at a cost of £11,739. The council and South Oxfordshire District Council will split the bill.

The town council said the low-voltage system would be cheaper to run and would make the Christmas tree scheme more “streamlined”.

New Deputy Mayor Jeni Wood, who chairs the council’s Christmas events and decorations sub-committee, said: “This will keep Henley looking beautiful.”
