Campaign opposes floodlit pitch plan

THE Campaign to Protect Rural England has objected to plans for a floodlit sports pitch at Langtree School in Woodcote.

The charity’s Henley and Mapledurham branch has urged South Oxfordshire District Council to refuse permission for the £200,000 scheme.

The plan includes six 10m lighting towers, which the CPRE says would spoil the character of the village.

Chairwoman Judith Crockett said: “The light pollution from the towers will not only be unneighbourly but harmful to the wildlife of the area.

“It will intrude into the dark skies of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which we should be doing everything to protect.”
