Village hall extension bid likely to cost £500,000

A PROJECT to extend Benson Parish Hall will cost almost half a million pounds.

The figure was revealed by parish council chairman Jon Fowler at its annual meeting earlier this month.

The plans went on display in November last year allowing members of the local community to review them and make comments.

The scheme will include extending the front of the building to accommodate a new parish office on the ground floor, installing a lift and increasing storage space for archive material. The parish council also hopes to extend the first floor to create more rental space and refurbish the toilets.

Mr Fowler said: “Hopefully we’re getting to the point where the plans are reaching a stage of finalisation. The reason we’re doing the extension is because of a couple of things. The existing parish office is far too small for the number of staff we have working in there and access to the office and upstairs room isn’t ideal for the less able-bodied.
