New firm lines up to build skate park

A NEW contractor has been found to build a skate park in Sonning Common.

Members of the parish council approved a proposal to appoint Wheelscape, a Bristol-based firm, at its annual meeting on Monday.

The Sonning Common Skate Park committee had been looking for a new firm since the original company that was chosen, 1Skatepark, went into receivership before the contracts were signed.

Councillor Carole Lewis, who chairs the committee, said the cost of the project would be a maximum of £100,000, much of which has already been raised through grants.

In April, it was announced that £60,000 has been awarded to the committee by Lafarge Tarmac’s landfill communities fund and another £15,000 was given by South Oxfordshire District Council’s community investment fund.
